Step by Step

On some of my more involved images it occured to me to capture the step by step process so that I was able to show how I created them. Some have the steps written down, while others are only images.

I hope that you enjoy seeing my creative process, and if you are another artist I hope that this is of some small help to you. Some of the images may contain nudity.

While working on the image "Torn" I managed to remember to save periodically so I could put together a step by step progression for you. The base figure and platform were rendered in Poser 8 pose from scratch. Posing, setup and render done in one evening, around 5 hours including the 2 hour render time (2500 x 2200 300dpi image using Ambient Occlusion, Image Based Lighting and Indirect lighting for you Poser geeks)The rest of the image was painted in Photoshop CS3. Total work time for this piece is around 13 hours, the bulk of which being the painting done in one sitting of around 8 hours.

Marbleheart was done so long ago now I don't have much in the way of commentary on the work in progress shots. I was assigned a cover with a river otter on it. No one made a river otter for Poser back then. Closest thing anyone had was a ferret, and not a very good ferret either. I decided to take it as a painting challenge. Below are several work in progress shots taken while I was working and the cover he finally wound up on.

An up close and personal step by step look at how I painted the cover for Maiden Hell Issue #2 for Harmon Comics. Maiden Hell and all images associated with it are copyright Harmon Comics. This was the first cover I ever did for publication. At this point I'm not sure the company exists anymore and have no idea if the cover ever went live but it's still one of my favorite pieces.
